TRANSITIONS TO COMPLETE EDUCATION

New Hope Charitable Foundation

Thought drives belief.   Belief drives behavior.

What people believe about themselves they become.

What if we build a way for ALL kids to develop interests, follow dreams, and graduate from high school able to be successful in life?

WHERE DOES CREATIVITY GO?
Almost all children, at the age of five, are very creative.  They'll make a castle out of a box.  They'll play producers, movie stars, singers, astronauts, fishermen/women, lifeguards.  They'll set up grocery stores, fast food outlets, pet hospitals, fire stations, and hardware centers and entertain themselves for hours with others playing and being creative.  They will unselfconsciously draw animals, plants, and their own inventions to accomplish some task.  They will unselfconscioulsy sing made-up songs.

What happens by age 18 to their creativity?
What would happen if the development of their creativity were encouraged, not suppressed?
WHERE DOES FEAR ORIGINATE?
A kid may say something like, "I'm going to have my own private plane someday."  How would they be effected by different adult responses of, "Quit daydreaming! It's really competitive out there, and be thankful if you can get a job!" VERSUS, "Yes, and when you get a jet, please fly me around!"  ?

Do we think kids' confidence to dream and confidence in their own ability to fulfill their dreams is not affected by their experiences, including what we say?

How can we prevent the stealing of dreams?  How can we build up, not tear down, kids' dreams?
